Hi there! Have you ever tried turning a very narrow strip of fabric? It can be really challenging! In my new pattern Millie, a women's blouse, one of the variants for the blouse is to sew it with a keyhole back.
The keyhole back has a loop that is quite narrow. So I wanted to show you how I turn this narrow loop! And you can use this method on other narrow fabric strips as well.
1. Sew
Here's my loop. I've folded it over itself, right sides together.
The first step is to sew the loop. (In the Millie pattern, the seam allowance is 1,5 cm so that's what I'm using here).
BUT, here's the trick! Pull out the thread and place it in between the fabric layers. Then start sewing, making sure the thread is kept inside the loop, to the left.
2. Trim seam allowance
If your seam allowance is quite wide like mine, go ahead and trim it down.
3. Turn the loop by pulling the thread
Grab the thread that's lying inside the loop. Pull it gently and help turning the fabric with your fingers until the entire loop is right sides out.
4. Press
Give the loop (or other fabric strip) a good press with your iron.
In the Millie pattern we also fold and press the loop into this shape. From the right side, it looks like this:
And from the wrong side:
Hope this will help you quickly turn your loops when making your Millie blouses! :)
